It DOES Take A Village

“It takes a village to raise a child” is an African proverb which means that it takes an entire community of different people interacting with children in order for a child to experience and grow in a safe environment.

In that vein, we believe it “takes a village” to keep a social enterprise like Makers going and growing. Not just for the children, but for the adults. For all of us.

The very nature of Makers means that it will take a time to “percolate” into being what it is meant to be. In a perfect world, there is always someone in the woodshop who can help out with wood projects, always someone in the sewing area who can help with sewing, a full roster of people who can help with drawing and painting, felting and knitting, sculpting and STEM.

Let’s do this!

Volunteering at Makers

Volunteering at Makers is simple and fun. You select the volunteer task you’re most interested in and then select your optimum shifts. We’ll get back to you with a time for orientation training. At that training session, you’ll fill out a vulnerable sector background check form and we’ll submit it for processing to the local RCMP.

When your check comes back positively, we will put you on the schedule.  The volunteer schedule will be online and available for you to view.

While you are volunteering you will need to adhere to our basic code of conduct. Luckily, the red Makers Apron all volunteers wear is a little like a superhero costume (we are told) and people who wear one have a special sort of strength.

Then the fun begins. You get to work in an upbeat, friendly place, full of energetic, creative people of all ages. Your opinions will matter, your input will be important. Because we are a social enterprise which is, in all meaningful ways, owned by the community, you will, quite literally, be helping to make Makers.

Volunteer Opportunities

We hope that you will peruse all of the ways in which we need the community to help and find something that appeals to you and suits your lifestyle and schedule.

It’s important to remember that volunteering can be done in any sort of way that best suits you. Only have one hour a month to give? Awesome! We’ll take it. Have several hours a week? Awesome, we’ll take that, too! Can only volunteer in the summer? That’s fine. Only in winter? That’s fine, too. Can only do mornings? Or Mondays? Can’t lift anything heavy or work in the heat? We understand.  If you want to help, we will find a way.
